The Conveyor Belt: Sandustry Digs Into Early Access
Welcome back to the Conveyor Belt — your roundup of everything spinning in the factory, automation, and idle world this week. Grab your coffee; this is a two-minute read.
📦 Patch Notes & News
Sandustry hits Early Access August 13. Hooded Horse and Lantto Games locked in a date for their falling-sand factory game — think Factorio’s production chains poured into a fully destructible, pixel-simulated planet. It ships on Steam, GOG, and the Microsoft Store, and it’s on PC Game Pass day one. If you’ve been craving automation where the terrain itself flows and reacts, wishlist this one.
Factorio 2.1 is closing in on stable. The 2.1 experimental branch has been baking since late June, and Wube is holding it through the summer so mod authors can catch up before the stable launch. No new planets or enemies — it’s a quality-of-life, graphics, and audio polish pass, and it’s confirmed as the final major update before the team moves on. Heads up: once you upgrade, blueprints and saves can’t be downgraded to 2.0, so back things up first.
💡 Quick Tip of the Week
Factorio players: stop hunting through your inventory — use the smart pipette. Hover over any building, belt, or inserter you’ve already placed and tap Q. It instantly loads that exact item (correct type, correct direction) onto your cursor, ready to place. Point it at a blueprint ghost and Q grabs that too. Most players miss it because the tutorial never spells it out, so they keep scrolling their hotbar mid-build. Once Q is muscle memory, your placing speed roughly doubles.
🎮 Manu Idle Corner
Good offline progression is a quiet art: reward players for stepping away without making active play feel pointless. The trick is a curve that pays generously for the first few hours idle, then tapers — so you always return to a satisfying pile of resources, never an exploit. It’s a design puzzle we keep chewing on for Manu Idle, and we wrote up the full thinking here: https://manugames.com/blog/offline-progression
🗳️ Poll of the Week
What’s your most embarrassing factory mistake? The spaghetti belt that deadlocked your whole base? The mall you forgot to feed iron for six hours? The train signal that turned your rail network into a parking lot? Hit reply and tell us — we’ll feature the best confessions next issue.
🎮 What We’re Playing
Splitting time between the Factorio 2.1 experimental branch (the new audio pass is genuinely lovely) and poking at Shapez 2’s brutal new Manufacture Hard Mode. One of us has a Sandustry-shaped hole in their calendar for the 13th.
